Pride
Dear Bronco Parents and fans,
I can't begin to express my pride in these young men and the way they played last night at Baytown. Both A and B teams, I believe that I can honestly say - they played as complete a game as they have all year. They played with intensity, aggresiveness, teamwork, and most importantly, with class. I believe that God was pleased last night. It was a physical and demanding game but the boys responded beautifully. On a side note to those who made the game - their coach did come up to me after the game in the hallway and apologize for the behavior of his team. I think that showed a lot of class on his part.
Just a reminder, we will NOT be practicing today per se. We will practice tomorrow and then Friday, we will practice until 4:45. I then will meet with the parents for about 15+ minutes to make sure we are on the same page for Saturday.
I am looking so forward to this coming Saturday and seeing how we finish. If they give the effort this weekend that they gave last night, good things are going to happen.

Last Week
Dear Bronco Parents and fans,
Wow!! It is hard to believe but we are down to our last week of the season. It feels like we just started a couple of weeks ago. We stand 16-6 with Baytown tomorrow and then hopefully two more games this weekend at our Conference tournament. We are hoping to finish strong. There are a couple of things that I need to pass by you.
First - we will be playing a B-team and A-team game tomorrow at Baytown. We will do it similar to what we did at West Columbia. We will carry 9 on roster for B-team and then everyone for A-team game but 8th graders will get bulk of playing time in A-team game. We play at 5:30 and 6:30.
Second - we will be hosting our Conference tournament this coming weekend. It will be Saturday, Jan. 28th only. The first game of the tourney will be at 8:30am. We will play girls/boys/girls/boys and then girls championship and then boys championship. We need several things: a couple of people to do the main scorebook; several of you to rotate at keeping the gate at the front door; some to be available to help in concession stand possibly; and some to get food for a hospitality room for coaches and officials - will be set up in War room (annex behind gym where we had our parents meeting.) Please let me know by Wednesday where you might be able to help out.
One more thing: Varsity boys and girls play out of town Friday against Pasadena so we will practice until 4:45 on Friday. I would like to meet with all of you after this to be sure we have everything lined up for Saturday. So just mark your calendars for this.
Thanks and looking forward to great week,
Coach Holcomb

Today's Lunch
Dear Parents and fans of Broncos Basketball,
We had a great lunch together today as talked about where we were as a team. I believe that you will see a huge difference in us in tomorrow's game and for the remainder of the season. I'm excited to see these young men grow. Just a head's up: I asked the boys and they wanted to have one more Saturday practice so we have it scheduled for 1:00-3:00pm on Saturday. I completely understand if your child cannot make it but I hope that the majority of you can be here. This is their idea. I think it will help us to prepare for our final couple of games and end of season tourney.
Thanks for your prayers.

Tomorrow and Friday
Hey Bronco Parents and fans,
Just wanted to send a note to you parents about tomorrow (Thursday). I have reserved the Atrium conference room for the boys and we are going to eat lunch tomorrow in private. I ask you to pray for this time. We are going to talk about the next week and a half and where we are. I am so proud of these young men and what they have accomplished this season and I just want to reassure them of this tomorrow. Basically, they will get their lunch and come into this room and we are going to eat and talk.
Friday - we play a B-team game at 4:30 and then our A-team game at 5:30. We will play here.
*ONE more important note: we will be hosting our conference tournament next weekend (28th). Coach Hasselmeir and I will sit down with Coach Pennye soon and then we will be asking for help. We will need some to do clock, book, gate, and hospitality. More info to come.
Again, I thank you for the privilege of coaching your young men and I desire strongly for them to finish on an encouraging note. Thank you for all your encouragement.

Santa Fe Tournament
Dear Bronco Parents and fans,
The team got a great hard fought win last night at Pasadena 43-38. I was proud of how they fought through adversity and kept playing hard. Our record for the season now stands at 13-4. The boys and I are excited about defending our championship at the Santa Fe Tournament. Remember, we play at 3:30 today. One thing that I want to get out to you is this - after our last game tomorrow (no matter what time), I would like for all of us - parents, players, coach - to go to Cici's on 646/I45 and fellowship together. I can probably get the boys and I a discount (pay $5 or $6) for the meal.
One more thing - we had a new student move in over the break and he plays basketball. The boys wanted to give him a chance so he had a tryout on Wednesday. He is going to be on the team for the remainder of the season - his name is Andy Rogers. So encourage him and pray for him. Looking forward to a great weekend.

This Week
Dear Bronco Parents and fans,
We definitely have a busy weekend beginning on Thursday. We will travel to Pasadena to play First Baptist. Note this schedule change - our game will be at 5:00pm rather than 5:30pm. Then, on Friday, we will play in the Santa Fe Junior High Tourney. Our first game will be Friday at 3:30pm. Whether we win or lose, our second game will be on Saturday morning. I will send a tournament bracket home with the boys today or tomorrow. I'm looking forward to great things from each of these young men. God bless you all.

Bayside Tournament Conclusion
Dear Bronco Parents and fans,
Greetings in the name of Jesus!!
I just wanted to drop a line and just mention how proud of our young men that I am. They played extremely hard yesterday. The final scores in both games really don't, in my opinion, tell the whole story. First of all, the biggest thing I saw is that our guys competed! Now, truth be told, in the first game, we started out a bit scared but once they saw they could play with Dickinson, they did better. The second game was just us not taking care of the ball or fundamentals at times and that hurt us.
Second - the Dickinson coach praised our boys and their effort and for that I am grateful. As I told the boys after the 2nd game, and I truly believe this, we did not get beat as much as we beat ourselves. I believe that the young men on this team are going to be that much better because of the experience of playing against teams that we don't normally play. We learned some good things about ourselves and the boys were able to point out some things that they said we need to work on and that excites me about this coming week of practice.
I just want to tell you parents how much I appreciate you and your support and your testimony at the tourney. Some of you saw how out of hand parents can get in some of the other games there. You did your sons, school, and Savior proud!!
For Him Alone,
Coach Tracy Don Holcomb

Bayside Tourney - Part 2
Dear Parents,
I just wanted to drop a line of encouragement to you regarding the tournament this weekend. Obviously, it is a public school tournament. My prayer for you and for the guys is that we would, as Jesus said, "let our light shine before men that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father in Heaven." Know that you will hear and observe things that might make you uncomfortable - shine the light!! I just want you to know how much I appreciate your sweet spirit at games - I know many of you are as competitive as I am and want to win but you don't allow that spirit to cause you to be rude and I am so grateful for that. You represent your boys, your school and your Savior well and I am honored to be a part of something like that. Continue the good work!!

Bayside Tournament
Dear Bronco Fans,
Just found out this afternoon that we will be participating in the Bayside (Jason's Deli Invitational 8A Boys Tournament) tourney this Friday and Saturday (?). This is a HUGE challenge for us - literally, a David v. Goliath challenge. It is a Public school tourney with some 4A and 5A feeder schools. Our first game will be Friday afternoon at 4:15pm in gym 2 against McAdams Jr. High (Dickinson). Our 2nd game will either be: if win game 1, will play at 7:15pm against Pearland; if lose game 1, will play at 8:45pm against loser of Texas City and Victory Lakes. How we do in these two games will determine whether or not we will play on Saturday.
I sent a bracket home with the boys and will again tomorrow. Just a heads up - we will practice from 2:45 until 5:00pm tomorrow afternoon. I apologize for the lateness of this but again, I just found out for sure this afternoon. Pray that we will have a good practice tomorrow and prepare ourselves for the challenge this weekend.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me.
